“In the State of Colorado, the serious decision to start or end a pregnancy with medical assistance will remain between a person, their doctor and their faith,”

“No matter what the Supreme Court does in the future, people in Colorado will be able to choose when, and if, they have children”

This was stated by Jared Polis, the Colorado State governor, USA, while performing the signing ceremony of a law, Reproductive Health Equity Act, that makes abortion fully legal in the state.

By this landmark law, women are now guaranteed to the full right to abortion throughout the state.

This law is the outcome of the longest debate in Colorado House history, the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which codifies women’s right to make reproductive healthcare decisions – free from government interference. The bill was eventually passed last month.

Commenting on the Act, a policy Advisor, Mr. Richardson, was of the view that the voices of the current religious extremists against the stated desires of America’s founding fathers, who wanted a separation of church and state are succeeding in pulling America back into the stone ages. “A vast majority of women support their own right to an abortion” he added.

This Reproductive Health Equity Act, provides the “right to use or refuse contraception or to continue a pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion.” It further restricts local agencies from imposing restrictions, and states that “a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights.”

To a female Coloradan “this is about freedom and this is about power”; adding “The freedom to decide when, whether, and how to become a parent; the power to make your own decision about your body and your health without having to ask permission of your local politician.”
