And as for those who are overweight, Ramadan is a golden opportunity to lose weight by focusing on low healthy high-fiber, low-calorie foods. According to bariatric surgery Team specialist, a person who follows a healthy diet in Ramadan can lose about 2-5 Kg.

.  Thirst and hunger will increase with the long fasting hour, so it is necessary to follow a few steps to mitigate thirst. Drs of internal Dept advises to avoid drinking a lot of tea or soft drinks and eating desserts after breakfast, and substituting these with drinking large amount of water, as a fasting person should drink at least 8 glasses of water until bedtime, which helps the body stay hydrated.

.   For a healthy fasting experience, Internal Dept Drs Team advises to have souhur (pre-dawn breakfast during Ramadan) as a potential meal that provides the body with vitality and energy during the fasting hour. While having souhur, it is necessary to focus on consuming an amount of carbohydrates and protein, and not to overlook the importance of eating vegetables and fruits

. Pulmonology Drs Team sees the holy month of Ramadan as an opportunity to get rid of the health damaging habits, especially smoking. Since the benefits of quitting smoking start to appear from the first day of quitting, Ramadan is a golden opportunity to take this step as the fasting person refrains from smoking during the fasting period and hence he will be able to continue doing this as long as he has the determination and persistence.

.   A tip for diabetics: Endocrinology Drs Team says that diabetics should consult their doctors before deciding to fast to find out whether it is possible. In case the doctor approves, the best advice is to eat small breakfast meals to avoid the rise of blood sugar levels. He adds that it is necessary to monitor the blood sugar levels on a regular and daily basis before and after breakfast to ensure that fasting is recommendable for diabetics, and guarantee the direct intervention of sharp rise or fall in blood sugar levels.
