The Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum, 2022 edition kicked off today with a pre-conference golf tournament at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, “the Icon”, Golf Course, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, in South South Nigeria. The hotel is also the venue of main event tomorrow 6-8 December, 2022.The golf
tourney, which has become a component of major Oil and Gas event, is being sponsored
by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

“I think it’s what we do every Practical Content (Practical Nigerian Content)” said the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Simbi Wabote, while sharing his thought on the tourney with us.
“First we want everybody participating in the
conference to usually start it with golf tournament. You can see the
atmosphere; everybody is happy.

“Golfers all
over the country are here to participate in the first day of the PNC event. This
is the second time we are holding it in Uyo; and I guess for the next three
days we are going to have the conference proper but the golf tournament is a
precursor to the event itself. We also had a golf tournament a day before the
Nigerian Oil and Gas conference at Abuja (earlier this year)
“As long as I
remain the Executive Secretary (NCDMB) we would continue to have golf first day
of all the conference we are involved in”
Asked in a
lighter mood, if the encouragement he is giving to the game of golf in Nigeria
is also part of the local content drive, he responded cheerily: “Absolutely;
this is part of the overall local content. You can see over 90% of the golfers
here are Nigerians, locals. We also trying to encourage the game of golf; and
to tell you, yes, the game can be played locally and internationally”

Dr. Lami Ahzmed, a lady golfer with IBB international golf club, Abuja had earlier spoken with us on the game of golf when we caught up with her earlier in the day on the Golf Course while the tournament was still going on.
“The joy you
get in playing golf is the fact that you exercise because it is a game you can
play alone or with people. It also enables you to network and play with people
of integrity and respect. A game of golf is a game of integrity and good behavior.
“Far from being correct, golf is not an elite
game. In the beginning when golf started, it used to be played by CEO of
companies and directors, and I think that’s where the wrong information
started. You have people of different careers and caliber playing it. So it
depends on what you want to do and you find the means of doing it. It is not
expensive at all” she concluded.
