BE DELIBERATE ABOUT YOUR LIFE

Like I wrote in my other article, how to maintain athletic health, I mentioned that I did all sort of sports in my high school days. That includes football, and honestly, it was my favourite then. It still is; though I am not a fanatic of club football. Any team that has beautiful display of artistry, and fair play too, has my support. No matter its commercialization, it’s still a game. That means I could support one team today and another tomorrow.

I guess such an attitude is good for my emotional health, especially these days that football following has become as fanatical as religion and politics. Those my playing days, we looked forward to people with certain traits to play in certain positions. For instance, anyone that is more disposed to the use of left foot is more apt for any of the left wing position. Same goes for a right footer. Because most people are right footers, it was a great gift to any team to find natural left footers. They are prized. But however good they are, left or right footer, they are limited. They lack of mobility and versatility. They cannot roam the entire field. That was only in the domain of those players that can use both feet well.

Of course, at that time, it didn’t prick my mind why people are disposed to use either their right or left foot. God made them so, I thought. Now I wonder if most people are naturally born at birth to use their right foot more. Same goes for the hand.  Or is the situation, as is prevalent today, a case of acquired naturalism? That is, programmed by our forebears, through observance and custom, to act that way.

Modern football seems to be providing the answer.  Most players can now, and in fact, do play with both left and right foot. They acquired the skill out of training, retraining, and continuous training. And of course, they put it into practice almost daily. In time the alternate leg become as perfect as the other. That means more versatility. More opportunities. More satisfaction.

What that comes to is this: To be deliberate about our life.

Being deliberate about our life could get us out of the rut of society, and make our life exceptional. And expansive. Too many things we do are because our forebears did it, not of any rational explanation.
